SAMBA Pro at Fraunhofer IGCV, Patch2Patient successfully completed, welcome Rob & Alexis!

Dear friends of Fiber Patch Placement,

We’re back from summer and can share some exciting news. Our customer Fraunhofer IGCV expands research on machine learning with their SAMBA Pro system, which is now located in a brand-new, state-of-the-art AI research center. We also successfully completed a large R&D project to enable automation for customized prosthetics and orthotics with FPP technology – the cross-functional team achieved great results, including a web-based platform to efficiently transfer relevant data all the way from patient to OEM for manufacturing with FPP.

Looking ahead, I’m in particular excited about the upcoming CAMX show and reconnecting with our US-based customers and partners. See you in Atlanta?

SAMBA Pro Fiber Patch Placement system of Fraunhofer IGCV in new AI research hall “Hall 43” of Augsburg University

IGCV’s SAMBA Pro Prepreg system has found its new home in “Hall 43”. This is the new AI research hall of Augsburg University, which was inaugurated in June 2023. The production system is now up and running and is being used to investigate innovative machine learning approaches. It is also available for interested companies to explore and evaluate the feasibility of parts in FPP design together with Fraunhofer IGCV.

Joint R&D project Patch2Patient successfully completed

In June 2023 we completed the joint research project “Patch2Patient”. The six project partners investigated the necessary base technologies for a digital, flexible and automated value chain in the production of composite medical products. These include modules of our Fiber Patch Placement technology required for production as a test setup as well as a planning and design workflow with adjusted digital tools that can integrate patient-specific data into FPP manufacturing.

Welcome, Rob and Alexis!

In the last 2 months, two new team members joined our Production Technology team: Robert Anthony and Alexis Ehrlich. Rob is a mechanical engineer and in his new composites industry. In his new position as Production Technology Engineer, he will focus on the design and development of our SAMBA PV system. Alexis has joined Cevotec as an Automation and Control Engineer. His responsibilities encompass programming our SAMBA systems and their HMI.

Webinar: FPP design techniques

On September 20, our webinar on innovative approaches to FPP laminate design took place. We presented different methods how to design a patch-based laminate in ARTIST STUDIO. Starting with a general introduction, we will delve into the world of FPP laminate design and explore 3 different application types:

– medium-sized aerospace part with regular-sized patches 
– large aerospace part featuring trapezoid patches 
– pressure vessel reinforcement

See you around

After the rather quiet summer break, we travelled to the UK to the International Composites Summit, where we had the chance to reconnect with the British composites industry. We also presented on the Composites United Innovation Day at Voith Composites our solution to reduce the weight and cost of composites tanks with FPP dome reinforcements.  End of October we will exhibit at CAMX in Atlanta, USA and at the Composites Nantes B2B meetings in November. We close the events’ year with the Aviation Forum in Hamburg beginning of December. Looking forward to seeing you at the upcoming events! For more information, check out our calendar.
