Dear friends of Fiber Patch Placement,

As the days have grown shorter on the northern “dome” of our planet, our dome reinforcement solution for composite tanks shines even brighter. We’re thrilled to announce that our collaborative project with Roth Composite Machinery and CIKONI has been honored with the prestigious CAMX 2024 Combined Strength Award! It’s a tremendous recognition, and we’re incredibly proud of this achievement.

In other exciting news, the first customer FPP system dedicated to dome reinforcements is now setting sails to Japan, following a successful factory acceptance. A great job of our technical teams, who are already gearing up for system commissioning in the land of the rising sun – which happens to be a global powerhouse in the rapidly growing hydrogen economy.

CAMX Award for dome reinforcements

Cut. Patch. Win. We’re proud to announce that our collaboration project with Roth Composite Machinery and CIKONI has earned the CAMX 2024 Combined Strength Award! By applying dome reinforcements to an H2 tank using our Fiber Patch Placement Technology, we achieved a 15% reduction in fiber material usage. The award was presented at the CAMX show in San Diego in September.

New video: Design and production of FPP dome reinforcements

We have created a new video showcasing the Fiber Patch Placement process for dome reinforcements on a 300 liter / 700 bar pressure vessel – from the design of reinforcement patches with ARTIST STUDIO software to the precise lay-up on the liner with SAMBA Pro PV.

Projects

Milestone: First SAMBA Pro PV system heads to Japan

The first customer SAMBA Pro PV system for dome reinforcements of H2 tanks has successfully passed its Factory Acceptance Test (FAT). The system is now on its way to our customer in Japan, where it will be installed and commissioned. This SAMBA Pro PV system is configured to accommodate liners up to 1,000 mm in diameter and 3,000 mm in length. Stay tuned for more updates soon!

New user and data interfaces for SAMBA Systems

We’ve given our HMI a fresh, user-friendly overhaul to enhance the experience for the machine users. With a more intuitive layout and simplified navigation, the new design helps operators efficiently monitor system status, modify production parameters, and interact with the system with ease. Our revamped interface offers a clearer view of the production process, making it easier to track progress and make real-time adjustments to ensure an efficient workflow.

ARTIST STUDIO Software

ARTIST STUDIO Version 24.1.6 – Visual feedback of data-set patches

The latest version of ARTIST STUDIO brings enhanced visual feedback when editing or updating dataset patches in MOTION ARTIST. With improved support for rotational axes, easier editing of deposition points, and new options for defining deposition through fixed axis rotation, the user experience is now more streamlined. Additionally, rendering across all modes for trapezoids has been upgraded.

Events

See you around

In September, we attended the Composites and Advanced Materials Exposition CAMX in San Diego, USA. In addition to the CAMX Award recognition, our Technical Expert Dr. Dimitrios Sikoutris presented about dome reinforcement during the conference program. But first and foremost, it was great to re-connect with our US-based customers and partners and discuss future projects.

Earlier in the summer, together with our Japanese partner Fuji Industries, we exhibited at the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK, discussing with the aerospace community about automation for multi-material composites, scalability of production processes and the reduction of cut-offs.

We just came back from the Composite Pressure Vessel Conference in Brussels, where we talked about Enhancement COPV of storage efficiency and economics with FPP, and from the Hydrogen Tech Expo in Hamburg, which was a very busy event despite the current challenges in the industrial H2 ramp-up.

Looking forward, in November we will be exhibiting at the Aviation Forum in Munich, and to round off this year, at Aeromart in December in Toulouse.
