Automated aerospace sandwich panels, FPP goes medical and meet us at CAMX!

Dear friends of Fiber Patch Placement,

After a short summer break our activities are back in full swing. Following our intense recruiting activities in spring, we are now onboarding new colleagues – two of them you get to know in this newsletter. We also started into the event season for the second half of the year and are looking forward to CAMX in Anaheim (USA) as the next big trade show where we present our pressure vessel solution to the US market.

Tomorrow we will also host a dedicated webinar on using FPP for composite aerostructures, discussing lay-up strategies and typical material properties of FPP laminates. And despite continued difficulties related to the worldwide supply chain disruption, we are grateful that we can report good progress of important R&D projects we are involved in.

About the automation of complex aerospace sandwich panels

After more than one year of project work on ACoSaLUS (automated composite sandwich lay-up system), we would like to update you with the current developments. Besides advancing our post placement quality control, we are working on our gripper technology and are developing a dedicated honeycomb gripper. Our ambitious goal: the fully automated production of sandwich panels including the honeycomb core and integrated quality control.

Projects

From patch 2 patient: FPP goes medical

In 2019, we started together with five R&D and industry partners the joint research project “Patch2Patient”. Our Fiber Patch Placement technology serves as the centerpiece of the envisioned digital, flexible and automated value chain for geometrically complex carbon fiber parts in the medical device industry. We are currently developing a dedicated feeding and cutting unit as a key enabler for the efficient and economical production of e.g. orthotics and prosthetics.

FPP for composite H2 tanks at CAMX

At this year’s CAMX in Anaheim, California, we will not only exhibit but also give a presentation on our industrial solution to reinforce the domes of hydrogen pressure vessels using Fiber Patch Placement technology, which results in significant cost and time savings. Don’t miss the live presentation by our CEO Thorsten Groene on Wednesday, October 19, at 9 AM, room 208 AB. Furthermore, our team is looking forward to welcome you at our booth G54!

From chess to ARTIST STUDIO: Welcome, Alex!

Beginning of this month Oleksandr Tkachenko joined our software team. Due to his excellent background on C++, Qt and Visual Studio, Alex’ main task as Software Engineer at Cevotec is to further develop our ARTIST STUDIO software. We are happy that he decided to make software development his profession instead of becoming a chess professional and welcome him to our cevoTeam!

It all started with a master thesis: Welcome, Nikola!

Nikola Mirchev is one of our working students and will join our cevoTeam full time as a Software Enginer after finishing his master thesis at the end of October. He already gained some experience in the field of Virtual Reality using UE4, Android applications and web development and is now writing his thesis about the “Development of an algorithm for the creation of near-parallel curves on a CAD surface”.
